250: The Return of Christ

250: The Return of Christ

Embedded in chapter 14 of Zechariah, in the middle of the Lord telling His people about how He will “fight against the nations” that fought against Jerusalem, we possibly find a cryptic description of the effects of a neutron bomb.  It reads:

Their flesh shall dissolve (or, rot, waste away) while they stand on their feet,
Their eyes shall dissolve in their sockets,
And their tongues shall dissolve in their mouths (Zech. 14:12).

How can that be?  And what does that mean for us today?  Is this really the effects of a neutron bomb?

Keep listening to find out more.

230: Win the Saved!

230: Win the Saved!

Without a doubt, the church languishes as it does today because many, if not most, of professing believers in America are not even saved.  Does that sound harsh?

Well, consider this: many today have bought into a mind set that allows them to live any way they want and still claim to “belong to Jesus.”

But John said, “If we claim to have fellowship with the light (to be a believer, a follower of Jesus, a Christian), and yet walk in darkness (to live like the world), we lie (in claiming to have fellowship with the light) and the truth is not in us” (1 John 1:6).

Ouch.  Want to know more?  Then keep listening.

229: What is True Worship?

229: What is True Worship?

There are three great musts in the Gospel of John.

1. You must be born again – John 3:7.
2. The Son of Man must be lifted up – John 3:14.
3. Those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth – John 4:24.

The first two usually don’t cause us any problems. After all, what Christian would not agree that we must be born again?

But the third one, the spirit and truth one… ah, that’s where it gets a bit more difficult. What does Jesus mean? What is spirit and truth? And why is this one of the musts?

For answers, keep listening.

228: A Witness to the Light

228: A Witness to the Light

The life and ministry of John the Baptist can be summarized in the opening few verses of John’s gospel. John 1:6-9 states:

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.

I’ve got a couple of questions. What is the Light? How does he bear witness of that Light? Is it something that only he can do or can I be that witness also? It looks like there is so much more here than meets the eye.

There is. Keep listening.

227: What Do You Think of this Man?

227: What Do You Think of this Man?

Jesus summed up the essence of His life in John 12:31-32 where He said:

“Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out. And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.”

The key to preaching and the key to the Christian life is to simply lift up Jesus to our lost and dying world and let Him do the rest. But why is that so difficult? Why do we falter time and time again?

Are you interested in discovering what Jesus has to say about these questions? Good. Then keep listening.
